The trailer for the new Rebel Wilson led romantic comedy film Isn’t It Romantic looks like its gonna hit all the beats in the most self-aware way possible. The film will also star Liam Hemsworth, Adam DeVine and Priyanka Chopra and will follow Natalie (Wilson) who wakes up one day to discover that she is self aware of her existence in a typical romantic comedy, attempting to avoid every cliche associated with the genre.
Isn’t It Romantic looks like it’s actually gonna bridge the gap between cliche and subversive in a pretty cool way which would be something interesting to check out. The trailer itself seems pretty funny with plenty of visual gags, cliches and a some sexy people to get that target audience in with a interesting coat of meta humor to help this film stand out a little more.
Granted, it’s not like anything super original cause it’s basically a fun jab at the romantic comedy genre that would be a fun time for couples on Valentine’s Day (eeww). It’s highly unlikely that this film would be Annie Hall or 500 Days of Summer but it could still be something fun to check out especially with the cast involved since Wilson and DeVine have proven to be good at comedic roles.
Isn’t It Romantic would have some competition at the box-office though with Happy Death Day 2U being released on the same day so it might not be the only film people would have their eyes on. One could assume that the couples would be going for this one and the singles would be going for the slasher flick but it would be so much cooler if it were the other way around.
