Look, we’ve been treated to some shit your pants funny stories all week, especially with the bunch of comic book related 10-year challenges that dropped. But nothing beats this next one. Donald Trump — yes, the actual real-life President of the United States of America — just received a Worst Actor nomination for the 2019 Razzie Awards. If you’re unfamiliar with the Golden Raspberry Awards (Razzies), think of it as a troll award show that celebrates the worst of the worst movies of the previous year.
Much like the Oscars, the Razzies consists of various categories too, namely Worst Film, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, Worst Actor and Worst Actress and many more. While most winners don’t usually show up to collect their (un) prestigious awards, there have been cases where actors/actresses show up and even deliver hilarious acceptance speeches just for the fun of it. Who can forget Halle Berry’s acceptance speech where she famously said (while cracking up on stage):
“First of all, I’d like to thank Warner Bros. Thank you for putting me in a piece of shit Godawful movie.”
And while Dwayne Johnson didn’t actually attend the event, he too was gracious in defeat, accepting his award for Baywatch via Twitter, while throwing some light jabs at the film.
It’s the #Oscars and Hollywood’s biggest night!
So let me go ahead and take this “L” right on the chin for Baywatch.
Win some, lose some.. but hey, that’s the way love goes. @RazzieAwards #Baywatch💩🥪 #AndTheWinnerLosesOn pic.twitter.com/2ICyzfVHSV— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) March 4, 2018
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the 2019 Razzie nominees have been announced. And while there are plenty of horrible movies and even more horrible performances that received nods, I think it’s safe to say that most of us will be rooting hard for the great big orange buffoon to take home the prize in the Worst Actor Category. What makes the situation even funnier is that he’s given a nod simply for featuring in a couple of documentaries where he appeared as himself and didn’t do any acting at all. Yeap, you read that right. Donald Trump, the President of USA received a Worst Actor nomination simply for being himself.
Competing with Donald Trump are other actors that are generally considered acclaimed, but dropped the ball big time this time around such as Will Ferrell (Holmes and Watson — 10% on Rotten Tomatoes), John Travolta (Gotti — 0% on Rotten Tomatoes) and Bruce Willis (Death Wish — 17% on Rotten Tomatoes). And to highlight what a nonsensical award show this truly is, Johnny Depp, too has been nominated simply for lending his voice to Detective Sherlock Gnomes (Sherlock Gnomes — 28% on Rotten Tomatoes).
