It’s been almost two years since the wonderful LEGO Batman movie hit theaters, delighting both casual and hardcore Bat-fans alike. But fans have been wondering if we’d ever get a follow-up, aside from Will Arnett’s Batman returning for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part of course.
Now, finally, the director of the first film, Chris McKay, confirmed on Twitter that while a second movie has not been announced yet, they are working on something right now in terms of a sequel.

While this is short on details, it is the closest to an official confirmation that we’ve seen yet. Having served as the director on the first one, he is certainly in a position to know the status of the second one. And as McKay’s tweet points out, fans will get to see a lot of LEGO Batman in the upcoming LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, which debuts early next year.
It’s pretty easy to see why a second LEGO Batman Movie would be in the works, as the film dominated the box office when it debuted back in 2017. And considering the fact that the LEGO franchise has built a sort of “cinematic universe” over its past few films, it makes sense that there would be more stories to tell.
You can see LEGO Batman in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, opening in theaters on February 8, 2019.
