The xXx film series (No, not XXX) is a pretty interesting action series which saw Vin Diesel doing what he does best… being bald. Having starred in the first film, xXx and the third film, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, he was absent in the second one, xXx: State of the Union with the film addressing this by well, killing him. Weirdly enough people still cared for this series with last year’s Return of Xander Cage earning a solid sum at the box-office and there will be an xXx 4 on the horizon.
Say whatever you want about the series, but it has proven to be successful and it’s safe to say that xXx 4 is likely going to do the same. Now, we have a new cast member added to the fourth film, a face that many recognized in another mediocre Western film and also the Asian music scene.
Deadline reports that xXx 4 has added Taiwanese music artist and actor Jay Chou. Chou has been widely successful in the Asian pop music scene but to the more the more Westernized crowd, he may be familiar to some as Kato from The Green Hornet film which he starred alongside Seth Rogen. The Green Hornet wasn’t really a good film nor did it do all that well at the box-office but Chou’s performance can be argued to be among the film’s better aspects. Actress Zoe Zhang also stars in the film that will see the return of Vin Diesel as Xander Cage under the direction of D.J. Caruso (Disturbia) who believe it or not, isn’t an EDM artist.
It’s hard to say if this is good news or bad news but the xXx films are pretty popular among audiences despite earning mixed reception from critics. Chou could be a good addition to xXx 4 but we’ll have to wait to see if this film would be able to stand out a little bit more.
