Like it or not, Sony is pushing forward with their cinematic universe based on Spider-Man characters, and after Morbius The Living Vampire, they’re going to get to work on a Kraven the Hunter movie. It’s been revealed that Richard Wenk has been hired to write the script, but now we have news on who Sony wants to direct the project.
Wenk told Discussing Film that Equalizer director Antoine Fuqua is being considered to helm Kraven the Hunter. Wenk and Fuqua had worked together with the Equalizer movies, and Wenk had this to say about possibly collaborating again:
“That’s an unequivocal yes. Antoine is not just a great filmmaker and one of the top filmmakers in the business, but he’s also a friend of mine and we work very well together. So, I’ve got his ear and he’ll decide based on the script.”
Back in August, Fuqua himself confirmed that he’s had a meeting with Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige to possibly direct something for the MCU, but nothing seems to have come out of those talks and now Sony is trying to swoop in and hire Fuqua for the SUMC.
With Kraven, it looks like the movie is still in very early stages, but it’s said that it will be based on the comic Kraven’s Last Hunt. In that story, Kraven catches and kills Spider-Man, buries him, and puts on his costume to take his place. It sounds really weird off the bat, but it’s actually one of the more iconic stories involving Kraven.
God knows what Sony is thinking if they don’t include Spider-Man in this story. No release date has been set for Kraven the Hunter.
