Netflix Announces Season 2 Of Indian Crime Drama Sacred Games

Sacred Games will be back with a new trail of betrayal, crime, passion, and a thrilling chase through Mumbai’s underbelly.

Indian crime series, Sacred Games, based on Vikram Chandra’s best-selling novel of the same name, premiered earlier this year on Netflix. And the good news is that Netflix has announced the second season of their critically acclaimed series. The Hindi and English show was one of Netflix’s first original series made in India.

The news was confirmed via a video on Netflix India’s Twitter account. A cryptic video was posted along with the caption: “The worst is yet to come. Sacred Games will be back for Season 2.” And it seems like the games are about to get deadlier with a new trail of betrayal, crime, passion, and a thrilling chase through Mumbai’s underbelly.

The first season of this dark thriller series had eight episodes, featuring Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte among others, not only became popular with audiences but also got rave reviews from critics worldwide for its gritty plot and power-packed performances.

Buoyed by the response, the makers are apparently sparing no efforts in making the second outing bigger than the first. Reportedly, not only the budget is being upscaled, but even the principal actors are getting a fee hike. The series, available in local languages in different markets, tells the tale of Sartaj, a seasoned and cynical Mumbai police officer who is summoned one morning by an anonymous tip which promises him an opportunity to capture the powerful Ganesh Gaitonde, criminal overlord of the G-Company.

The series continues with Sartaj Singh pursuing his relentless battle of saving the city and Ganesh Gaitonde facing bigger challenges to retain his position as the legendary kingpin of Mumbai. The intriguing Guruji, introduced in premiere outing as Gaitonde’s ‘third father,’ plays a pivotal part in unfolding a chain of events that shape the next season, which is scheduled to film in India and locations overseas later this year.
