The Power Rangers has been a a staple of pop culture for a long time and has one hell of a fanbase. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television series in the 1990s was the seminal spark that lit the flame spawning a dedicated following and a franchise that still holds a place in pop culture today. This year, the franchise celebrates its 25th Anniversary and to commemorate that, the Official Power Morphicon Convention announced a new travelling version.
The Power Morphicon Convention is the largest Power Rangers convention and is the only one that is officially recognized. The convention started in 2007 and takes place in Southern California every two years. The travelling version is called Power Morphicon Express and it will be visiting multiple cities led by Jason David Frank who plays Tommy Oliver AKA The Green Ranger (Later the White Ranger).
Power Morphicon Express provides fans the opportunity to interact with Power Rangers actors, panels on the franchise, a vendor’s hall and Power Rangers inspired art by local artists. According to Screen Rant, one panel in particular is providing fans a chance to become a Power Ranger… sorta with Frank himself providing an acting class on how to be a Ranger. He said:
“We are going to give back to the community by charitable events. Also, I’ll be running the first time how to be a Power Ranger acting class,”
This may not seem like a big deal for some people who aren’t fans of the franchise but to the initiated, this seems like something you wouldn’t wanna miss. The franchise ain’t done (in mainstream media) as we know since there are plans for a sequel to the disappointing film released last year. Hell, with the cultural significance this franchise holds, maybe this could be the one.
