Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Infinity War
It’s safe to say that Thanos is now a figure of popular culture after only months after Avengers: Infinity War was released. The events of the film brought forth a ripple in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Thanos’ finger snap having a big role in it. The finger snap that wiped out half the cosmos was an iconic scene in the MCU that left fans in shock when walking out of the cinemas. It seems that, those events are about to be emulated online.
A subreddit dedicated to Thanos has decided to pay homage to the character by banning half its users. In Infinity War, Thanos claimed to be helping the universe to not crumble to overpopulation like his home planet Titan did. It looks like that greatly resonated with some fans as the subreddit named ThanosDidNothingWrong was formed and it intends on banning half of its users as a tribute to the villain. The idea did not bode too well with the administrators initially but are moving ahead with the plan to do so. One of the subreddits’s mods, The-Jedi-Apprentice explains:
“As you all know, I was in talks with one of the admins of Reddit. He told me that doing a massive ban the day before July 4 was a terrible idea, because many of Reddit’s engineers would be out with their families. Also, the engineers would not be prepared for a mass ban so close to it.However, I presented a solution to these two problems, and I now have their permission to ban half of the sub! The random 50% ban will take place on July 9. The admins are designing a bot for me that will allow me to do the job in a quick and easy manner”
This seems pretty funny honestly and it seems like great fun, giving someone a chance to play internet god for a bit (that didn’t sound as sinister in my head). You could ask, what would happen to the banned users? Well, apparently they’ll be sent to… I mean, new subreddits called r/SoulWorld and r/InTheSoulStone exists to serve as a new home to them. These subreddits allude to an Infinity War theory which revolve around those who disintegrate ending up inside the Soul Stone.
Well, I wonder how far this would go but I wouldn’t be surprised if they take this all the way to Avengers 4. It does seem like a lot of fun and perhaps more re-enactments like these can be done. I can’t think of any but these die-hards would probably have a thing or two under their sleeves.
