The following contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War

Despite the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War that saw a multitude of the characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe disintegrated by Thanos’ finger snap, Marvel has confirmed sequels for many of the heroes who fell victim to that. Some of the characters’ fates still hang in the balance but it looks like one of the heroes in question for a sequel would be Stephen Strange as Kevin Feige has revealed that a sequel for Doctor Strange will happen.

Doctor Strange saw a psychedelic adventure starring the beloved Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular character that garnered positive reviews along with with being a box-office success. Doctor Strange didn’t stop with his own standalone having been featured in a cameo in Thor: Ragnarok and has played an enormous role in Infinity War. It looks like the character would make a return to the big screen.

Speaking to Cinemablend, Feige was asked on balancing the franchise in regards to the number of films slated to which he responds that scheduling is key and that long gaps between films are often pretty normal. He explains:

“Sometimes it’s where do those characters pop up? [Doctor] Strange, you know, whenever we do another Strange one, which we will do, it will be a number of years from the first Strange, and yet he’s a very big part of [Avengers:] Infinity War. So it is just a good problem to have when you have too many beloved characters that people want to see more of, whilst keeping to our core belief that we need to keep exploring nuance and keep doing different types of things.”

Marvel isn’t rushing into anything as you can see, allowing for characters to breath and other stories to be told that would compliment the franchise in the long run. Doctor Strange was released in 2016 and set a precedence for what would happen in future films. This does not necessarily mean that Strange survived the disintegration as Marvel can go any route in their sequels with the upcoming Ant-Man & The Wasp being set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Infinity War. Much of the elements surrounding Doctor Strange is pretty neat and it’ll be one hell of a trip to see the character back.
