Ant-Man and the Wasp is set to be filled with super-powered individuals. Obviously, there’s the titular duo of Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne, as well as Michelle Pfeiffer’s original Wasp and Bill Foster AKA Goliath, as played by Laurence Fishburne. And while she won’t suit up in this movie, it seems the sequel will put the pieces in place for another character to become a hero in a future film.
While talking to Marvel on the red carpet, young actress Abby Ryder Fortson was asked about her arc in Ant-Man and the Wasp. The actress revealed that her character, Cassie Lang, Scott’s beloved daughter, will develop an interest in following in her father’s footsteps and becoming a superhero in her own right at some point when she’s older.
“I think in this movie she really shows that she’s really interested in becoming a superhero, Forston said. “In the last movie, she doesn’t really wrap her head around it, so in this movie, she really wants to fight with her dad”. When asked who she would become, Fortson answered, “Stature“.
In the comics, Cassie took the Pym particles and became the hero Stature, to honor her fallen father. She has the ability to change her size at will, becoming as tall as a skyscraper or as small as an insect. Stature becomes a member of the Young Avengers, alongside other second-generation vigilantes like Wiccan, Speed and Hulkling. Stature soon joined the main Avengers roster.
As it happens, we might see Stature in the MCU sooner rather than later. A new actress was reportedly cast as an older Cassie Lang for Avengers 4, so it would make sense that she’ll be Stature by then.
We’ll get to see for ourselves how Ant-Man and the Wasp sets up Cassie’s future when it hits theaters on July 6.
