The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a complicated one in regards to tying the television shows and films together. Most of the television shows are no doubt darker, grittier and tonally more mature overall as compared to the Marvel films but they do take place in the same universe. However, the exploits of Avengers: Infinity War has led people to wonder about the events of the television series and how the characters are dealing with the events of the film. Well apparently, we don’t have to worry there as the shows are set before the events of Infinity War.
In a recent Reddit AMA by Executive Vice President of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb, it was revealed that the forthcoming Marvel television shows are set before the cataclysmic events performed by Thanos. He wrote:
“For the most part our stories will take place BEFORE Thanos clicked his fingers. A lot of that has to do with production and when we are telling our stories vs. when the movies come out. So hang in there. I remember in the comics, one of my favorite stories was the KREE-SKRULL war… which was universal, but in X-Men, no mention. Huh. And it all worked out in the end!”
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 seems to take place around the first half of Infinity War and the finale didn’t really show anything that indicated the effects of Thanos’ finger snap. It seems that these shows will be going the route of some upcoming Marvel films as Ant-Man & The Wasp and Captain Marvel are both set before the events of Infinity War.
With at least five shows to be released before Avengers 4 which include Cloak and Dagger, Luke Cage season 2, Iron Fist season 2, Daredevil season 3 and New Warriors, fans can just enjoy these stories as they are without cracking their heads as to how it all ties together or god-forbid, attempt to come up with theories as to what would happen in Avengers 4.
