Kingsman Franchise To Expand With More Films And A TV Show

It looks like there will be more in store from this spy flick.

It’s hard to forget the Rated-R spy action film Kingsman: The Secret Secret Service. The crazy plot, humor, fun characters along with its phenomenal action scenes (still can’t forget that church scene) made it one hell of a ride. Its sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle….. well, that’s a different story. It looks there will be more on the way for the Kingsman series as not only will they release a third film but a prequel, spin-off and a television show.

Based off the comic book series Kingsman by Mark Millar, The Secret Service follows Eggsy (Taron Egerton), a troubled youth as he is trained to be a part of the Kingsman, a secret British spy organization. With this, things happen, the world is in danger and Eggsy saves the day, the usual spy flick formula. It was a big hit and received positive reviews spawning a sequel, The Golden Circle which saw Eggsy travelling to America to work with the American counterpart of Kingsman named, Statesmen (a little on the nose, but okay). The critical reception was mixed but it was a major hit as well, so one would guess a trilogy would be fitting.

It won’t stop at a trilogy as the franchise looks like it’s going to expand. Director of the Kingsman films, Matthew Vaughn spoke with Empire and revealed plans for the franchise. Along with a third film to conclude the Harry Hart (Colin Firth)-Eggsy relationship, there will also be a prequel titled, Kingsman: The Great Game that will explore the organization in the early 1900s (both of which they would shoot back-to-back) along with a Statesmen spin-off film. One of the more intriguing developments in store would be an eight hour TV show.

The third film and the spin-off seem pretty standard fare but the prequel does sound intriguing, it’ll be interesting to see the organization in its early days. A period action film is always refreshing amidst the more modern setting-oriented action films. The TV show seems like it could really explore more stories and characters. Comic book TV series are providing some mature and gripping narratives and hopefully through this medium, Kingsman would be able to emulate that success yet sticking to their own guns. Since there’ll be a TV show, what are the chances of a Kingsman-Archer crossover?
