News broke recently that Academy Award winner Jared Leto, who plays The Joker in the DC Extended Universe, is getting his own standalone movie following his character’s debut in Suicide Squad. While many fans are not impressed that Leto’s being let loose as the character once again following Suicide Squad, which was widely regarded as a horrific mess, one person seems to be quite pleased with the news. Dave Bautista sees the news of Jared Leto getting a solo Joker movie as a point of hope for a Drax the Destroyer film.
The actor who debuted as Drax in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy took to Twitter with his humorous take on Leto’s potential solo film. Replying to a tweet from a journalist panning the film as a ‘bad idea’, the former WWE Champion took an optimistic perspective.
But on the bright side! Which I usually try to look at… if this can happen then the chances of me getting a Drax movie have got to be astronomically high! Like so high that I’m going to stop tweeting and sit by the phone and wait for @MarvelStudios to call! ….any second now! https://t.co/hOt1I2OJxJ

If that Marvel vs DC shade wasn’t enough, Guardians director and MCU producer James Gunn added some fuel to the fire.

Past actors who’ve taken on the role, Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, have been lauded and praised for their performances in the role, but Leto has largely been panned for his take on the character. While the Joker’s place in popular culture is far more prominent than Drax’s, fans would sooner see a Drax spinoff Leto do whatever it is he did in Suicide Squad.
Of course, Bautista is only joking about the possibility of Drax getting a standalone movie. At the end of Avengers: Infinity War, Drax was among the few Avengers who disintegrated into dust after Thanos’ snap, however, Bautista previously confirmed his return for both The Avengers 4 and Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
