Boba Fett is getting his own spinoff and to say there’s been a mixed response is a heavy understatement. James Mangold, who directed The Wolverine before serving as writer and director on Logan will write and direct this movie, while there are reports that Logan producer Simon Kinberg is still linked to the project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney and Lucasfilm have decided to pursue a stand-alone film based on popular bounty hunter. The untitled movie will be a part of the studio’s Star Wars Anthology films, which are being spun off as origin stories. The first anthology film was 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, followed by Solo: A Star Wars Story. There have been reports that a possible Lando Calrissian movie is in the works. Star Wars fans are certainly spoilt for choice when it comes to this parade of content, with at least one TV show headed for Disney’s upcoming streaming platform.
Boba Fett debuted in 1980’s Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and re-appeared in 1983’s Star Wars: Return of the Jedi as a mercenary for the Galactic Empire. Jeremy Bulloch played the character in the two movies and Jason Wingreen provided Fett’s voice. No official confirmation or release date has been announced for the Boba Fett film, and no plot details were revealed in the report.
However, the news of this movie has garnered a slew of mixed responses, with fans displeased that the Star Wars bounty hunter is getting a spinoff before the likes of Princess Leia and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Disney and Lucasfilm are still stuck in the past. Why do we need a #BobaFett movie? Can we actually EXPLORE the vastness of the #StarWars universe? #Solo is a huge disappointment. I fear for this too.
But, I trust @mang0ld . His work on Logan and 2/3 The Wolverine is awesome!

If Boba Fett gets a movie before Leia, I’m going to burn it all down.
Leia was a political leader/spy/early member of the Rebel Alliance in her TEENS.
Boba Fett was accidentally bumped into a hole in the ground by a blind man as a setup for a burp joke.

There are some fans who have brilliant ideas for how the movie should go down.

If Disney had guts, the Boba Fett movie would just be two hours of him dissolving slowly in the Sarlacc. No flashbacks, no cutaways. Just him leaking out of his armor until the end credits. I don't get invited to a lot of parties.

Then there are some who are optimistic about the movie.

Before you go saying “no one asked for Boba Fett”, watch #SoloStarWars. The movie sets up some things that definitely can play out in a Boba Fett movie while bringing back Han and Lando and showing how they all got involved with Jabba.
