It’s been nearly a month and the events of Avengers: Infinity War still lingers on in the minds of everyone whose seen it. The film broke box office records and is now the fourth highest grossing film of all time. Along with the commercial success, the film has also earned critical acclaim and fans are still unwrapping everything they can from the film.
The nineteenth installment in the decade long franchise served up a lot and it can be a lot to wrap one’s head around especially with how it ties into the previous films. In a recent sit down with Collider, Infinity War screenwriters, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely was asked on Thanos’ acquisition of the Infinity Gauntlet. Markus explained:
“I think the Gauntlet was made when Loki was pretending to be Odin….presumably, Eitri was running a relatively regular business and people would have gone there and said something. So, it hasn’t been that long.”
Markus’ statement suggests that the gauntlet was made between the events of Thor: The Dark World and Avengers: Age of Ultron in which the Mad Titan put on the gauntlet during the post-credits scene. There is a convoluted story surrounding the Infinity Gauntlet that this sort of helps clear up. Introduced in Thor, audiences were definitely left confused but it’s amazing how they managed to tie everything up years later.
The Infinity Gauntlet’s prominence in the Thor films including The Dark World sets the stage on how important these characters were initially and we didn’t even know it. The Avengers may have included Loki as the main antagonist but when comparing the Thor films (pre-Thor: Ragnarok) to the Iron-Man or Captain-America films, they were not as widely celebrated or highlighted amidst the rest.
Avengers 4 would likely cap everything off and the stories told may just stop there. Maybe there won’t even be an Avengers 5…….
Of course not! These movies will go on forever!
