The ending of Avengers: Infinity War was a downer to say the least. The deaths of all these beloved characters just left audiences wondering what they’ve just witnessed. But it’s a Marvel film, so there’s gonna be a post-credits scene. Audiences would assume that it would relate to Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man and The Wasp but instead it went with Captain Marvel which is still in its early stages of production.
Infinity War writer Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely spoke to Collider and discussed much of the events of Infinity War. They were asked on the decision to go with Captain Marvel instead of Ant-Man for the scene. McFeely contested that it all came down to hope. “It’s a tragedy and tragedies end in a grim and sad end.”. He said on the ending of the film. McFeely further added:
“We wanted to give a bit of hope to people….and that was the best chance we had.”
The scene definitely did its work and is keeping audiences anticipated for the next Avengers and the introduction of Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel is played by Oscar winner, Brie Larson and would revolve around Carol Danvers as she turns into one of the galaxy’s mightiest heroes to resolve an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds in which Earth is caught in the center of. It will be set in the 1990s so it’s a nice thought to expect the Guardians of The Galaxy treatment in regards to having a killer soundtrack (at least some Nirvana).
This move in Infinity War was a smarter move and a far more emotionally resonant one. Having Ant-Man would only serve to nullify the moment but i guess it would have diffused some tension? Nonetheless, this was a far better move on the part of Marvel, and was relatively subtle in doing so in just having a simple insignia to deliver the message.
