Action movie veteran Sylvester Stallone is gearing up for a huge 12 months. As we learned back in April, the former Rocky star has agreed to headline Rambo 5, which is currently targeting a theatrical release this September. And as if that wasn’t enough nostalgia for you, Deadline brings word today that Sylvester Stallone is officially locked in for The Expendables 4 ahead of its own launch early next year.
Deadline reports an early 2019 start date for the film. The fourth Expendables movie was given the green light after Millennium Films struck an all-important deal with exhibitors Dadi for Chinese distribution rights. Deadline also reports that Millennium has sold Chinese rights for Rambo 5 as part of the same deal. Millennium Films has locked in Stallone to film both the fifth Rambo in September 2018 and The Expendables 4 in early 2019.
Screenwriter Greg Poirier is said to be back, however, a director has yet to be named. While Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren are all but guaranteed to be back, Jet Li, Wesley Snipes and Harrison Ford, are most likely done. Bruce Willis is also not expected to return, having had a fallout with Stallone. As for Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Terminator has stated that he wouldn’t be back without Sly, so it should be safe to assume that he’s all in. Plot and casting details about Expendables 4 as of now, is unknown.
The action series has been Stallone’s way of uniting ageing action stars into one kick-ass team. Over the trilogy, actors like Chuck Norris, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson and Bruce Willis have taken part.
Expendables 4 should be an action-filled explosion-fest.
