Spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War ahead.
The shocking Thanos “finger snap” that wiped out half of the living beings in the cosmos still remains a shock to fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Infinity War has no doubt gone to great lengths this time around with moments of shock and awe that left audiences with their mouths open when the credits rolled. Even the actors involved were shocked having heard of their character’s demise including the Winter Soldier himself, Sebastian Stan
Stan spoke during a spotlight panel at Wizard World Philadelphia on the moment he found out about his characters fate based on reports from Comicbook.com. Upon hearing from his stuntman, James Young on the day of shoot regarding what was going to happen, Stan-dumbfounded, approached co-director Anthony Russo to clarify things. Stan recalls:
“I was like, ‘maybe this is it.’ And I remember Anthony was talking to everybody, and I was like, ‘Anthony, do- OK, I’ll wait. Uh, do– am I- uh, is this it? And he was like “No, well, you know, maybe. But not really. Well, I don’t know.” So, that’s the way that day went,”
The script and story were held under wraps from many members of the cast and crew, unaware of the context of the scenes they were shooting. However, this is kinda strange as actors are blindly following their leaders through this-which isn’t necessarily wrong but it can affect the performances in the end.
Although the films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe have done really well both commercially and critically, it seems that the actors could use some better job security at this point. However, they’re rich so they wouldn’t be starving anytime soon, plus the characters are bound to be resurrected especially when there’s already been news of upcoming films that relate to them such as a new Guardians of the Galaxy.
It’s unclear if Bucky will be resurrected but he is one of the most compelling characters in the MCU that doesn’t rely on unnecessary humour to keep audiences engaged but the MCU would no doubt be different without The Winter Soldier.
