While the next Star Wars adventures on the big screen will be Ron Howard’s prequel Solo and J.J. Abrams’ Episode IX, TV audiences also have quite a bit to get excited about. Solo: A Star Wars Story isn’t even out yet, but we’re already talking about another exciting iteration of the Star Wars universe. Some intriguing new details are emerging about the upcoming live-action TV show.
The project’s writer and producer Jon Favreau, who directed Iron Man, told Nerdist the timeline of the new series which is coming to Disney’s upcoming streaming service. Turns out that it’ll fill the void between the original film trilogy and the new one. The new show will be set between the original trilogy (IV-VI) and the current trilogy (VII-IX). To be more precise: Seven years after the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi, and roughly a couple of decades before the events in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. So the series will help bridge the huge gap in the show’s mythology.
Favreau also noted that the show would feature all-new characters. Favreau didn’t say much more about the series other than addressing the technology being used to create it. Some of the new characters will be rendered using bleeding-edge motion-capture technology.
The new Star Wars series doesn’t have a release date just yet but is expected to launch alongside Disney’s stand-alone streaming service. We still have many questions about what Jon Favreau’s Star Wars TV show will be about. Do watch this space for more info on when Disney will be bringing the show to audiences.
Solo: A Star Wars Story will be released on May 24.
