Thirty years after the original Predator film was released, a sequel version is here, and so are the aliens. 20th Century Fox has released its first teaser trailer for Shane Black’s upcoming installment of the Predator franchise, The Predator. The movie is the latest entry in the long-running sci-fi action franchise that started with the Arnold Schwarzenegger classic in 1987.
The trailer opens with a kid playing with some alien tech he finds in a box, which seems to be controlling a Predator ship, causing it to crash on the Earth. An army specialist is then seen being interrogated about what he saw on a jungle mission. This is followed by warnings from Olivia Munn’s scientist character about the danger posed by the “upgraded” Predators. There’s also plenty of action and a few glimpses of the Predator itself killing some unfortunate victims.
It isn’t the first time 20th Century Fox has worked to revitalize the franchise. There were a pair of crossover films in which Predators fought Aliens in 2004 and 2007. There was also a 2010 version that Nimród Antal directed. Black’s installment in the franchise has been in the works since 2014. The film was initially thought to be a reboot, but he later noted that the film would be considered a sequel.
Shane Black, who appeared in the original, is in the director’s chair for the new adventure which stars Trevante Rhodes, Sterling K. Brown, Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn and Keegan-Michael Key. Black co-wrote the R-rated film with Fred Dekker. The film sees the alien hunters return to Earth after a boy in the suburbs triggers their return. Only a group of former soldiers and a science teacher are the planet’s line of defense.
The Predator arrives in cinemas on September 13.
