Looks like Hollywood is ready to take yet another stab at The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Streaming juggernaut, Amazon, is currently developing the series which will be centred around Lisbeth Salander, a badass and deeply troubled hacker from Stieg Larsson’s bestselling series of novels.
According to Variety, the new TV series will not be based on any of the novels in particular but rather will feature brand new stories and situations. The series still does not have a writer or lead actress attached. Fingers crossed, Amazon hires women to run the show and write the script. Lisbeth Salander is a complex character and the books offer thought-provoking feminist themes to ponder upon.
It would suck if the series followed the path of Fede Álvarez‘s 2018 film The Girl in the Spider’s Web, which reduced Lisbeth Salander to be a sexy gothic version of Black Widow from the MCU (pre-Russo brothers). One hopes that the series would take a deep dive into the psyche of Lisbeth Salander more than even the solid Swedish original film, starring Noomi Rapace, and David Fincher’s good-not-great 2011 adaptation.
