Yesterday was the first anniversary of Star Wars Rebels coming to a close with the episode “Family Reunion … and Farewell.” The emotional final episode left audiences on a bit of a cliffhanger, with many clamouring for a followup series centred on the characters of Sabine Wren and Ahsoka Tano finding missing Jedi and friend Ezra Bridger.
As fans shared art and celebrated the series using the hashtag #RebelsRemembered, series creator Dave Filoni took to Twitter to remind us all of that cliffhanger.

Filoni wrote,
“Thank you all for sharing your memories of Star Wars Rebels. It was a wonderful show to make, and the entire crew is humbled by your outpouring of love and support with #RebelsRemembered. I tried to think of something to sketch for all of you today, but I couldn’t come up with something from the past, so I drew a possible future instead. It’s always good to check in on old friends, don’t you think? No, this is not a new show, just a drawing I did today for you, the greatest fans there are. Thank you.”
The sketch in question depicts Sabine and Ahsoka on a snowy planet, no doubt in the midst of their search for Ezra. Filoni makes it clear that “this is not a new show,” but still, for fans? This one sketch, alone, conjures so much. While some of us still have hope that this story will be told in full someday, this little piece of art is a treasure.
Not much can be deciphered from the drawing in terms of potential narrative, but it doesn’t seem like it will be a walk in the park to find Ezra. Filoni has previously confirmed that the young Jedi is alive, albeit his whereabouts are currently unknown after people saw the last of him in Star Wars Rebels finale.
