TRAILER: Netflix’s Russian Doll Could Explore Time Loop Premise Further

In a hilarious manner.

The trailer for the first season of Netflix’s Russian Doll starring Natasha Lyonne (Orange is the New Black) dropped and it looks like it’s going to offer something familiar yet different. Created by Lyonne, Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland, the series follows a young woman named Nadia in New York City as she dies repeatedly only to relive the same night over and over again. Where have we seen that one before?

Yep, we’re gonna get another Groundhog Day but this time it’s a television series so that’s gonna be interesting. The Groundhog Day premise has been used repeatedly in many films such as Edge of Tomorrow and Happy Death Day along with the latter’s sequel Happy Death Day 2 U. However, Russian Doll is a comedy television series so they might have a little more time to explore this premise. Check out the trailer below:

Starring the aforementioned Lyonne, Greta Lee (Girls), Yul Vazquez (Bad Boys II), Elizabeth Ashley (Happiness) and Charlie Barnett (Chicago Fire), the film’s trailer does seem like it’s going to take things a little further as compared to their big screen counterparts. Apart from being pretty damn funny, the series looks like it may actually question Nadia’s sanity in regards to this dilemma. Nadia may not be alone however as she apparently meets some who’s sorta going through the same scenario. This dude is played by Charlie Barnett.

Russian Doll looks pretty damn intriguing even with a premise that’s been used numerous times. We can expect a pretty funny series but let’s hope the series can be more than just laughs possibly exploring this premise further.

Russian Doll will premiere on Netflix on February 1, 2019.
