The Curse Of La Llorona Teaser Trailer: Scary Mexican Folklore Legend Comes To Life

A new horror flick to look forward to.

The teaser trailer for The Curse of La Llorona just dropped and it looks like this film may deliver something spooky based off the Mexican folklore legend. The film takes inspiration from the aforementioned folk legend La Lolorona, a ghost of a woman who lost her children and now cries while looking for them in the river, causing misfortune to those who are near her or hear her.

From the team behind The Conjuring series and its spin-offs, James Wan and Gary Dauberman serve as producers with Michael Chaves as director. Chaves is also set to helm The Conjuring 3 and this looks like the perfect way to see if he would deliver on that film. From what we see in this teaser, it looks like he sure as hell might. Check out the teaser below:

The film stars Linda Cardellini (Freaks and Geeks), Patricia Velasquez (The Mummy), Sean Patrick Thomas (Halloween: Resurrection) and Raymond Cruz (Breaking Bad) among others. Set in the 1970s, the film follow social worker, Anna Garcia (Cardellini) and her kids as they attempt to survive the deadly La Llorona as she draws them closer to the frightening supernatural realm. There’s honestly a lot of weird supernatural stuff going on so I’ll just give you the synopsis. Check it out below:

La Llorona. The Weeping Woman. A horrifying apparition, caught between Heaven and Hell, trapped in a terrible fate sealed by her own hand. The mere mention of her name has struck terror around the world for generations. In life, she drowned her children in a jealous rage, throwing herself in the churning river after them as she wept in pain. Now her tears are eternal. They are lethal, and those who hear her death call in the night are doomed. La Llorona creeps in the shadows and preys on the children, desperate to replace her own. As the centuries have passed, her desire has grown more voracious… and her methods more terrifying.

In 1970s Los Angeles, La Llorona is stalking the night – and the children. Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother suspected of child endangerment, a social worker Anna Garcia (Linda Cardellini) and her own small kids are soon drawn into a frightening supernatural realm. Their only hope in surviving La Llorona’s deadly wrath may be a disillusioned priest and the mysticism he practices to keep evil at bay, on the fringes where fear and faith collide.

Beware of her chilling wail…she will stop at nothing to lure you into the gloom. Because there is no peace for her anguish. There is no mercy for her soul. And there is no escape from the curse of La Llorona.

Yeah, sounds pretty messed up and something to really look forward to for horror fans. Although I enjoyed the teaser, I sure wished they didn’t reveal too much. We see a glimpse of La Llorona’s face and it would have been better to just save that. Horror’s in the unknown people. Maybe the film would adopt this approach a little more.
