A new report claims that Matt Reeves’ upcoming DC movie will not be titled The Batman as previously believed. The Batman film has been in development for quite a while now, but nothing about the film’s storyline, casting or release date has been announced yet.
Popular leaker Daniel Richtman recently shared a screenshot of the film’s production sheet on Twitter that labels the movie as “Untitled Batman Project.” This means that the movie is going to get a brand new title, as it nears the beginning of production. The project has long been referred to as “The Batman,” a simple moniker that doesn’t imply anything more than adventures featuring the superhero. Fans have yet to get confirmation that a script has been completed, so it’s possible that Reeves had a more exciting title in mind for his vision.
Actor Ben Affleck was originally attached to write and direct the film. But, the actor eventually stepped down and handed over the directing duties to Reeves. Affleck was still attached to reprise the role and produce the film. But, now, reports are that Reeves’ upcoming film will focus on a young Batman, so, the chances of Affleck returning as the Caped Crusades is almost zero. It is rumored that the film will not be directly based on Frank Miller’s Year One comic.
Batman has been one of DC’s most iconic characters, coming to life in various films dating all the way back to Adam West’s Batman: The Movie in 1966. Despite his pop culture prominence, the upcoming adventure has been the source of much of fans’ speculation.
The Batman is one of many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC Films, including The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Birds of Prey, Black Adam, Suicide Squad 2, Nightwing, Supergirl, Plastic Man, New Gods, a Deathstroke film, and a Joker origin movie set outside of the DCEU.
