Disney To Develop Hunchback Of Notre Dame Live-Action Musical

And an interesting name might play the lead.

Disney is proving yet again that they’re running out of ideas with plans for another live-action adaptation of one of their classic animated films. We’ve seen a few of late with most of them being fairly mediocre but that’s not gonna stop the House of Mouse as we’ll be seeing more this year including a live-action Aladdin, Dumbo and The Lion King. This next one on other other hand comes from the animated classic The Hunchback of Notre Dame with a title simply being Hunchback. Not only that, they have an interesting name attached to the project that could in turn play a bigger part in the film’s production.

Deadline reports that playwright David Henry Hwang has been tasked to pen the script for a new Hunchback of Notre Dame live-action musical which is simply titled Hunchback. Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz have also signed on to write the music. Both Menken and Schwartz are not strangers to Disney, with a number music credits to their names including the original Disney animated film.

That’s not all though as Josh Gad is set to serve as executive producer for the film and the report indicates that he might also play the lead role of Quasimodo as well. Gad has been in Disney flicks in the past having played roles as such Olaf in Frozen and will also reprise his role in its sequel. Gad has also played LeFou in Beauty and the Beast, one of Disney’s mediocre live-action remakes.

We don’t for certain if Gad will be playing Quasimodo in Hunchback as casting hasn’t been set just yet but it wouldn’t really be a bad idea and it could very well be possible. I just hope the live-action remake would have the balls to go to the darker territories explored in the animated film cause if not, f–k this idea.
