Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is no doubt a spectacular superhero film and perhaps even one of the best superhero films of the decade. We’ve seen a slew a slew of superhero films of late with a number of them being great and a number of them being pretty s—t but the genre has made a place for itself in popular culture. The latest take on the iconic Spider-Man character saw plenty of other Spidey related characters introduced on screen providing an animated film like no other. The film has already been garnering some accolades including a Golden Globe win in the animated film category. With the amount of praise the film’s been getting, one could say that it would likely be considered a classic in the years to come. One filmmaker is already considering it to be a masterpiece and he has expressed that vehemently.
Rian Johnson, director of films like Brick, Looper and a little indie film called Star Wars: The Last Jedi has taken to Twitter to express a heaping pile of praise on Into the Spider-Verse, even considering it to be his new favorite superhero film. Check out the tweet below:
I also feel like the influence of this movie is going to run deep. It’s the Velvet Underground of superhero movies.

Well, the Velvet Underground is an amazing band and hell, it’s kinda the father of alternative rock bands so that’s a pretty big compliment. Johnson considering Into the Spider-Verse to be his new favorite superhero film is also a pretty big compliment considering that we’ve seen a number of amazing ones such as Logan or The Dark Knight or hell, even Spider-Man 2. It’s unclear if these feelings would remain the same for Johnson in the years to come or if it would for us but I guess only time will tell.
