Here are the winners ladies and gentlemen and for the most part, there weren’t a lot of surprises considering the critical reception of these films. Christian Bale’s transformation in Vice is no doubt a sure fire way to get showered with awards and Alfonso Cuaron’s ROMA winning for Best Foreign Language film is definitely what was expected considering how some critics are deeming the film to be a masterpiece (They’re not entirely wrong). It’s also great to see The Americans finally getting some love from the Globes since it’s no doubt one of the best shows out there today. Black Panther not winning for Best Film Drama was not much of a surprise but at least Into the Spider-Verse managed to get one for the superhero genre.
There were some surprises however with some of the winners. Green Book winning for Best Motion Picture- Comedy or Musical is relatively surprising as to be honest. The Favourite seemed to be the horse to bet on in this category since it’s a period piece and it’s been getting a lot more buzz than Green Book but hell, gotta watch Green Book I guess. Bohemian Rhapsody winning the award for Best Motion Picture-Drama was pretty damn surprising considering that the film itself didn’t really earn as much acclaim when compared to the other nominees.
Anyway, that’s it for the Golden Globe Awards this year and we can expect something similar from the following ceremonies. One thing’s for sure, we got a lot of interesting films to catch up on.
