Pixar has given us some of the best animated films of all time with films like the Toy Story trilogy, Up and also Wall-E. Granted, they’ve messed up before delivering some entertaining albeit lackluster sequels with the likes of Finding Dory to trash like Cars 2 but they’ve made a name for themselves in the world of film. With the much anticipated Toy Story 4 on the horizon, there’s still more on the way from the company with their upcoming film Onward and we have two familiar names attached to that project.
Pixar officially announced that their next original animated film would be titled Onward and would feature the voices of two boys from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Lending their voices to the film are Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Chris Pratt and Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s Tom Holland along with a couple of notable names such as Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer. The film will be directed by Dan Scanlon who directed the mediocre Monsters University.

Onward is scheduled to hit theaters on March 6, 2020 and the story will revolve around two teenage elf brothers set in a suburban fantasy world inhabited by various mythical creatures as they embark on a quest to find out if there is still magic in the world in order to spend time with their deceased father who died when they were young. Pratt and Holland will voice the brothers.
The cast does sound good but the director taking on the project doesn’t really help assure us that this could be something worthwhile. Monsters University wasn’t a bad film by any means but it was pretty forgettable but the direction was okay… I think. Maybe Scanlon deserves a second chance to deliver a Pixar film worth talking about.
