After the release date Spider-Man: Into Spider Verse, Venom screenwriter Jeff Pinker has discussed the possibility that Spider-Man could appear in a future Venom movie. The superhero film, starring Tom Hardy in the role of Eddie Brock, made a huge hit at the box office this year. Even though it’s not clear whether Marvel fans can expect a combined universe of Spider-Man and other secondary characters, Pinker has teased about the possibility.
Speaking to Discussing Film, Pinker gave a hint that there have been conversations going on. He told Discussing Film: “Without revealing anything that I’m not allowed to reveal, it is not impossible that in a future/upcoming Venom movie, Spider-Man will play a significant role… I think it’s fair to say that everyone involved would be very excited by a Spider-Man/Venom movie.”
As is the comic book movie way, the first film’s post-credits sequence left the door open for a sequel, teasing a possible war between Venom and Woody Harrelson’s Cletus Kassidy / Carnage, while establishing Riz Ahmed’s character Riz for use in subsequent movies.
Venom’s performance has already made a solid foundation for a future sequel, but Sony are yet to reveal plans on whether they will be making one. In terms of when we can expect this sequel, Sony has scheduled ‘Untitled Sony/Marvel Sequel’ for October 2, 2020, and fans can only assume that is Venom 2.
