Doctor Strange Director To Return For Sequel

Sounds like a plan Marvel.

2016’s Doctor Strange was one hell of a trippy ride providing one of the most visually engaging films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Oh and Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange was pretty good too along with the rest of its cast. It may not have the most compelling narrative but damn those visuals were amazing and we can no doubt expect a sequel for the flick soon.

Although everyone’s mostly hyping on the release of Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home, a Doctor Strange sequel should be there too. We know that Kevin Feige has confirmed that a sequel will eventually happen and now it looks like it’s officially happening with director Scott Derrickson back.

According to THR, Derrickson (who co-wrote and directed the first film) has finalized a deal to direct a Doctor Strange sequel. Marvel is currently looking for a writer to pen the script so it’s unsure if C. Robert Cargill and Jon Spaihts will return to take on script duties. Cumberbatch would return (duh..) to reprise his role as Strange along with Benedict Wong who played… Wong. Rachel McAdams who played Christine Palmer would likely return as well. The report also highlights the plan to hash out the script in 2019 toward a possible 2020 production start with hopes of it seeing a May 2021 release.

With Ryan Coogler reportedly returning to take on Black Panther 2 and now this, things are looking good for the future of the MCU. Doctor Strange 2 would really have to go all out on the trippy stuff cause that’s what made the first film such a fun ride. Or you can go deeper into the characters and stuff if you’re into that but yeah, sounds like a plan Marvel.
