47 Meters Down Director To Take On Resident Evil Movie Reboot

Maybe it would go the horror route.

The Resident Evil films in the past have never really delivered an adaptation worthy of the quality of the Capcom video games… Well, maybe they’re on par with the fifth and sixth games. However, the series will be seeing a reboot pretty soon that might see a different approach perhaps taking the horror route much like the seventh game in the series.

Paul W.S. Anderson directed four out of the six Resident Evil films with star Milla Jovovich serving as the lead. With Anderson and Jovovich taking on another video game series with the likes of a Monster Hunter film, you gotta wonder who’s gonna helm this reboot. It looks like we have the answer to that.

According to Variety, the Resident Evil reboot has found its director with Johannes Roberts set to helm the project. Roberts is noted for directing the survival horror film 47 Meters Down along with its sequel 47 Meters Down: The Next Chapter that will be released next year. In addition to directing, Roberts will also serve as the writer for the film.

It’s hard to tell where this film could go as Roberts is by no means John Carpenter but he is by no means a s–ty filmmaker either. 47 Meters Down earned a hefty sum at the box-office but its critical reception was… okay? However, with him attached to this project, we can assume that it is going the survival horror route much more like the good games in the series. Perhaps this Resident Evil reboot may serve something worthwhile.
