After a long wait, Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar’s film 2.0 released on November 29 and received a tremendous commercial response from the audience. 2.0 was expected to be a big hit at the box office, but the film’s box office collection has managed to exceed expectations.
The film set a new record in Malaysia for having the highest opening collection for a Tamil movie. The film managed to rake in a whopping RM2.7 million.
Although the storyline of the film was criticised for not being that intriguing, the VFX effects have blown away the audience as well as the critics. With a good word of mouth, the film’s box-office is expected to just get better with time.
2.0 is the much-awaited sequel to 2010 film Enthiran, which was also directed by S Shankar and it featured Rajinikanth as the protagonist (Dr. Vaseegaran) and the antagonist (robot Chitti). In 2.0, Chitti is reassembled by Dr. Vaseegaran to fight “Pakshi” Rajan (Akshay Kumar), an ornithologist who has turned against human beings.
2.0 also stars Sudhanshu Panday, Adil Hussain, and Amy Jackson. Produced by Lyca, the film has music composed by AR Rahman and sound engineered by Resul Pookutty. The cinematography for the film completely shot in 3D is by Nirav Shah.
