Hellboy Reboot To Be ‘More Violent And More Bloody’

That’s what I’m talking about.

The new Hellboy film starring Stranger Things‘ David Harbour looks like it’s really going to deliver something stunning. Based of Mike Mignola’s comic books, the film is set to go Rated-R with this upcoming reboot and we can sure as hell hope it’s going to be a sick and awesome time at the cinemas. Directed by Neil Marshall who directed the acclaimed horror film The Descent, the reboot looks like it might actually be better than Guillermo Del Toro’s adaptation of the comics.

As we all know, Del Toro made 2004’s Hellboy and its sequel, The Golden Army both of which were released to mostly positive critical reception. The Golden Army didn’t really earn that much at the box-office however so a third film didn’t see the light of day. However, years after we’re getting a reboot that will see Harbour taking on the role of Big Red instead of Ron Perlman who took on the role in the previous films and truth be told, this reboot looks like it’s going to be a glorious Rated-R fare.

Empire unveiled a brand new image of Harbour in the Hellboy reboot and he looks perfect for the role. Director Marshall also spoke to the outlet, discussing the film’s harder take along with the film’s more faithful approach to the source material. He said:

“It was always a case of, ‘When in doubt, go back to the source material.’ Some of the stuff is pretty sick. More violent and more bloody. We weren’t making it with handcuffs on.”

This is going to be awesome and we can expect Harbour to do a great job in the role. Rated-R comic book films have proven their success in the mainstream with the Deadpool films and Logan so Hellboy might fare very well at the box-office. However, it’s still pretty early to tell but let’s hope Marshall knows what he’s doing.
