With the release of the much anticipated Avengers: Infinity War later this month, there is much speculation as to where the Marvel Cinematic Universe might take its beloved heroes next. Although Marvel has brought forth a slew of upcoming plans for further installments such as a new Spider-man sequel and a new Doctor Strange film, some of the other cast members of the franchise have expressed great interest in their own stand-alone films.
Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Scarlet Witch in recent installments of the MCU has addressed the possibility of her own film in the future based on the House of M storyline. Speaking with Metro UK during a fan event in London, she says:
“I would love to (do a standalone), and I would love it to be the House of M, which is a comic book series of the Vision and Scarlet Witch having a make-believe family”.
The House of M story-line centers itself around a delusional Scarlet Witch following the death of her children with Vision. She loses her ability to alter reality, thus constructing an alternate reality in which her family is royalty and mutants are ruled by Magneto.
Recent films have alluded to their romance and caused much speculation among fans but it would be hard to surmise such a relationship due to the danger posed on Vision in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. The trailer teases [possible spoiler alert] an imminent death on his part but based on Marvel Studios’ track record, they don’t seem to handle character deaths too well, having resurrected several in the past most notably Agent Phil Coulson, who died at the hands of Loki in The Avengers and was resurrected in the Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D TV Series. Quicksilver did die in Avengers: Age of Ultron, though.
House of M would allow Marvel to get into more serious territory due to its complicated narrative. Could we be getting the MCU version of The Dark Knight soon?
