Call Of Duty Movie May Start Production In 2019

Another day, another video game adaptation.

Video games are great but video game film adaptations haven’t exactly been something that is held in high regards in media. Yeah, we haven’t gotten a lot of good video game adaptations if at all despite many of them earning a ton of cash such as the Resident Evil series. The best we’ve probably gotten was Rampage and Tom Raider but even those were just alright at best but Hollywood won’t be stopping anytime soon with another on the way as they now have their eyes on Call of Duty.

We’ll be seeing a Monster Hunter adaptation from Resident Evil director Paul W.S Anderson and star Mila Jovovich which is in production but it looks like Hollywood is taking another swing at a popular video game series with the ever popular first-person shooter genre. Yep, a COD film is on the way with Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado director, Stefano Sollima attached to direct it. Whether you like this idea or not, the film is coming and it looks like the film may start production soon.

Call of Duty‘s screenwriter Kieran Fitzgerald spoke to Discussing Film about the project, providing an update on the start of production. A 2019 start of production looks to be what they’re going for, saying:

“We have a great director attached, a guy named Stefano Sollima who made a fantastic series called Gommorra to date is the most popular Italian television show and really worth watching. And he then recently directed the sequel to Sicario which is called Soldado, so we’re very excited to have him on board and we hope to have production begin this spring.”

Sounds like an early 2019 start would be the aim for this project but you know, it’s a video game adaptation so, it could suck anyway. However, things better be ready in a matter of months if they wanna reach that start on time but it could be later on during spring so we’ll see. We haven’t gotten much news on the cast but we’ll find out once we get more.
