Jean-Marc Vallée To Direct John Lennon And Yoko Ono Movie

There are good names here all around so this has to be good.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono made a gigantic splash in the music scene or at least the Beatles front-man did but Yoko’s relationship with Lennon was a significant one. Both figures remain iconic in popular culture much like The Beatles themselves and it looks like we might very likely get a chance to see that relationship on screen courtesy of Dallas Buyer Club director Jean-Marc Vallée.

Before Lennon was killed in 1980, Lennon and Ono married in 1969 in what could be one of the most highly publicized love stories. Some say Ono was the reason The Beatles broke up due to her involvement with Lennon but he loved her or at least that’s the way we saw it.

Deadline reports that Universal Pictures are in negotiations to acquire the rights to an untitled drama following the epic love story of John and Yoko with Vallée set to direct and edit. The studio got hold of a spec package from Michael De Luca Productions and Immersive Pictures with a script by Anthony McCarten. Ono will produce as well alongside De Luca, Josh Bratman from Immersive, McCarten, Vallée and his producing partner Nathan Ross.

Writer McCarten and Vallée are good names attached to this project as they have proved to be pretty capable in delivering good films. McCarten has penned some great biopics with the likes of The Theory of Everything along with Darkest Hour and wrote the upcoming Bohemian Rhapsody. Vallée is a great director having made some great films like Dallas Buyers Club, earning Matthew McConaughey an Oscar for Best Actor and also Wild starring Reese Witherspoon.

There are still deals to be made before this is finalized but it looks good so far. The report mentions that it took some time to get Ono on their side to get this made but the future for this film is looking bright. As a huge Beatles and Lennon fan, they better not f–k this up.
