The Conjuring cinematic universe is possibly one of the most popular horror film franchises today and the series has no doubt made its mark in the world of horror. From the mind of James Wan, the series saw a few spin-offs/prequels with Annabelle which was s–t, Annabelle: Creation which was pretty good and The Nun which was s–t. However, both Conjuring films delivered wonderfully in regards to the scare factor and here’s to hoping The Conjuring 3 can do the same.
The Conjuring films follow ghost-hunting power couple, Ed and Lorraine Warren (Played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga respectively) as they investigate paranormal activities and document their findings. “Based off real-life events”, James Wan crafted some great moments of horror with the simple yet effective haunted house premise but with Wan passing directing duties to Michael Chaves for the third installment, how will things go about? It looks like the film may not go the haunted house route for the third one as some alleged story details for the film has surfaced.
According to Bloody Disgusting, an insider source is claiming that the film will focus on a man in a murder trial who claims that he was possessed by a demon. It is unsure if this is “inspired by real-life events” like the previous two but the Warrens will be investigating according to the report. Take into account that this isn’t written in stone nor is it fact since nothing has been confirmed but it would be a refreshing to see the Warrens stepping away from a haunted house for a change.
If this is going to the case, this may be something more than just your typical horror film. It may be an interesting courtroom mystery too but let’s be honest here, it’ll mostly gonna be the scares that matter. We can only hope that Chaves delivers something special here but we’ll probably find out his potential once The Curse of La Llorona (Which saw its teaser trailer debut recently) is out. With this premise, there’s a ton of potential for us to get a good horror film trilogy.
