Tom & Jerry is one of the most important figures of animation providing us over-the-top hijinks and pretty violent (For a kid’s cartoon) antics. The cat and mouse duo is undoubtedly one of the most iconic duos in animation from the minds of its creators, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. We’ve seen plenty of the duo in films and of course their episodic television shows but as we all know, those were animated.
Much like many good old fashioned animated flicks and television shows, live-action adaptations are bound to occur when ideas are running dry. We’ve seen a live-action Scooby-Doo film a long time ago and Disney is going nuts with live-action remakes of their beloved animated films. Tom & Jerry‘s mostly safe in that regard however as there is going to be a live-action/animated hybrid T&J flick.
THR reports that Tim Story is in talks to direct the live-action/animated hybrid Tom & Jerry flick for Warner Bros. Animation Group. Story is known for directing Ride Along and its sequel, both of which starred Kevin Hart and Ice Cube. He has also directed Fantastic Four and its sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer so we can assume he’s a pretty s–t filmmaker. He did make Barbershop which was pretty good and Think Like a Man which was alright so maybe he has some talent in him.
To be honest, this is already a pretty dumb idea but you can’t stop Hollywood from milking the s–t out of something that was once precious. We may see some Who Framed Roger Rabbit stuff going on in the flick but if it’s from this guy, don’t expect too much.
