Pennyworth: Jack Bannon Cast As Young Alfred In Prequel Series

Not really sure where this could go.

We’ve seen a ton of films and television series centered around Batman but we’ve never seen a lot of films centered around his butler Alfred Pennyworth if at all. It looks like that’s going to change Gotham executive producers, Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon are developing a prequel series dedicated to the character titled Pennyworth. The series will center around Alfred as young man, likely in his 20s and will serve as an origin story for the character. The 10 episode series will follow Alfred in 1960s London as a former British SAS soldier who forms a security company with none other than Thomas Wayne.

Young Alfred will be played by Jack Bannon who as we all know, is pretty unknown but… he is pretty. Bannon has seen his fair share of experience on screen having been in the Oscar winning Imitation Game along with other television shows such as Clique, The Loch and Endeavor. This take on Alfred looks like it may be pretty interesting as it looks like it may explore a side of Alfred we’ve never seen before. Check out the press release and a picture of the Bannon below:

“Alfred Pennyworth is a boyishly handsome, cheerful, charming, clever young man from London. Honest, open-faced and witty; you’d never take him for an SAS killer. Alfred doesn’t know how to reconcile the kind-hearted boy he used to be with the cold, calculated killer he was forced to become. He’s a man on the make, who doesn’t know what to make of himself yet.”

Yeah, it’s really unclear how things would be but it’ll definitely be interesting to see how it works out. With Heller and Cannon attached to it though, we may expect something similar to Gotham but it’s hard to really say based off the premise. Maybe we’ll find out a little sooner once more of the cast members are announced including Wayne himself. The series is set to start production on October 22nd so this show is moving forward pretty soon.
