Deadpool 2 saw the big screen debut of the mutants Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz) alongside the Merc with a Mouth in his latest cinematic adventure. Many hailed Domino as one of the highlights of the film and praised Zazie Beetz for her portrayal of the luckiest mutant. Interestingly enough, Beetz has tried out for a role in the X-Men franchise before, and if things went a bit differently she could’ve ignited a Storm.
Yes, the Atlanta actress previously auditioned to play the younger version of Storm as seen in X-Men: Apocalypse. During an appearance at ACE Comic-Con, Beetz revealed that she did audition for Storm and although she didn’t bag that role, she still feels that playing the younger version of the character would’ve been wish fulfillment for her.
“When I was a kid, I remember, in terms of characters, people would always be like, ‘You should be Storm.’ I auditioned for young Storm, actually, and I didn’t get it,” explained Beetz. “Growing up I always had an association with her. I mean, obviously, because being a young black woman, that was the one I associated with. But I think that would have been a little fantasy of mine to do that and sort of a nostalgic thing for me to try. So yeah, I’d say Storm.”
Actress Alexandra Shipp ended up bagging the role in X-Men: Apocalypse and is also set to reprise her role in Dark Phoenix. In the meantime, Beetz is the middle of principal photography for Todd Phillips’ upcoming Joker origin film.
