Things seem to be falling into place very nicely for the upcoming Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix. From The Hangover trilogy and War Dogs director Todd Philips, we knew for some time that film stars Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck (the Joker’s real name in the film), Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2) and Marc Maron (GLOW). Now, we have a full cast and crew with some interesting names attached to it.
Yesterday, Comicbook reported that Brett Cullen will be playing Thomas Wayne who was initially supposed to be played by Alec Baldwin. In a press release, Warner Bros. confirmed The Joker’s main cast which includes the likes of Bill Camp (The Leftovers), Frances Conroy (American Horror Story), Glenn Fleshler (A Most Violent Year), Douglas Hodge (Penny Dreadful), Josh Pais (Adventureland), and Shea Whigham (Boardwalk Empire). We also found out that Philips will be producing the film with Hangover alumni Bradly Cooper alongside Emma Tillinger Koskoff.
We don’t really have confirmed reports of the characters they’ll be playing but there have been suggestions that Beetz will be playing Sophie Domund, Arthur’s love interest in the film. Conroy will apparently be playing Arthur’s mother, Penny Fleck. As for the rest, we don’t really know all that much but the cast looks really good with Whigham and Conroy being the ones to really keep an eye on.
Yeah, this one looks to be a great one despite the confusion it could bring to general audiences who might be a little confounded as to the lack of Jared Leto. Phoenix is looking to be a force to be reckoned with and the set video that recently surfaced offers us a pretty unique take on the comic book genre oozing some Taxi Driver vibes which I can’t help shake off. We’ll find out once this film is out next year.
