It looks like the cast for the Joaquin Phoenix Joker film isn’t set in stone. Set to be a Joker origin film set in the 1980s, the film will see Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Marc Maron and NOT Alec Baldwin. Recently, reports surfaced that Alec Baldwin will be playing the part of Thomas Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s father in the upcoming Todd Philips films. Now, it looks like that’s not going to happen.
According to USA Today, Baldwin has withdrawn from playing the character of Thomas Wayne in the film. He told USA Today on Wednesday, “I’m no longer doing that movie” citing “scheduling” issues. Well, damn. Now what? It’s not horrible news by any means because honestly, there are probably better fits to play Thomas Wayne and even Baldwin kinda thinks so too saying, “I’m sure there are 25 guys who can play that part“. Baldwin also tweeted the news but some may assume that it’s a sort of joke denying his character to be a “Trump manque” since he’s tweeting the way Trump would but no, he’s really not in the film. Check out the tweet:
Let me state, for the record, that I have NOT been hired to play a role in Todd Phillips’ JOKER as some Donald Trump manque.
That is not happening.
Not.

Well, we know that Viggo Mortensen passed on the opportunity to do that so maybe Warner Bros. might give him a call to do so but he might just hang up. There are plenty of great actors who can take on the role however and I’m sure Warner Bros. would make the right choice in casting Thomas Wayne. Then again, they’ve f–ked up before.
There’s a lot riding on this Joker film and with this news, it’s starting to seem like the boat is being rocked a little. It’s not really a big deal but it does say that things aren’t going as smooth as we’d like in typical Warner Bros. fashion. This isn’t that big a deal but let’s hope this is the only setback the film has.
