Thanos Was Initially Supposed To Walk Through A River Of Blood In Infinity War

That would have scarred the kids.

Avengers: Infinity War was pretty dark for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film. It’s by no means, Gone Girl or hell, even The Dark Knight but it was probably the most depressing film in the MCU with one hell on a downer ending. Thanos’ infamous finger snap is obviously what’s in discussion here, wiping out half the galaxy including a number of our favorite heroes. If that massive genocide wasn’t enough, it seems that there were plans to make it really f–ked up.

SlashFilm got a chance to visit Digital Domain, the studio that worked on Thanos and discovered that there were plans to have Thanos walk through a river of blood during his mysterious reunion with a young Gamora in the Soul World. This would have obviously served as a metaphor for the lives he destroyed in order to balance the universe. They obviously decided to scrap it as VFX supervisor Dan Deleeuw revealed that it “got a bit dark”.

Damn! that’s something that would really scar the kids in the theaters. Granted, it’s by no means Gangs of New York or a Lars Von Trier film but that’s pretty grim for a Marvel film. I won’t lie, it would have been awesome and would add a real impact to the film. It would have showed us a very mature side of the MCU and would definitely be something that we would remember.

We got something sort of similar that was still quite effective and it is understandable why the opted not to go the darker route (Gotta get that PG-13 stamp). We already got a pretty downer ending, so maybe leaving it at just that level of downer would have sufficed.
