Robert Downey Jr. is one hell of a popular figure now due to his role as Iron-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His resurgence in show biz after his *ahem* troubles worked out very, very well for him. Aside from Iron-Man, two other roles brought the actor back in the limelight with his work in Tropic Thunder (which earned him an Oscar nomination) and his portrayal as Sherlock Holmes.
Downey Jr. starred as the titular character in 2009 and in the sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows in 2011. Both did pretty well at the box office and earned some decent critical reception (the first one at least) and it’s a wonder why a third film didn’t see the light of day sooner. Now, we have Sherlock Holmes 3 on the horizon set for a 2020 release date and Downey Jr. seems to be pretty damn ready for it.
Downey Jr. took to Twitter to provide tease in anticipation for the film. He shared a gif of Holmes with a caption that reads, “Practicing my Sherlock face“. Check it out below:

It seems that the film is coming on nicely and Downey Jr. is ready to return as the character. The film is probably in its early stages however since its going for a 2020 release date but hell, we’ll just wait I suppose. The Sherlock Holmes films weren’t phenomenal especially when compared to BBC’s television series starring fellow MCU-er, Benedict Cumberbatch (the first two seasons at least) but it would be nice to see Downey Jr. in other roles for a change (more mainstream roles I mean). Perhaps this third film could offer us a good Sherlock, god knows we need it after the disappointing fourth season of the TV series.
