Sequel For 2017 Power Rangers Film To Be Developed By Hasbro

Yes, sequel.

This may come as a surprise to some but there was actually a Power Rangers film released last year. Can’t blame  you since not only was it well… not good, it also didn’t really rake in much cash. The film currently has a 45% on Rotten Tomatoes and only earned about $143 million against a $100 million dollar budget which is obviously not a good thing. This film should not have existed in the first place despite the nostalgia attached to it. Well, they tried though and it’s time to pack up and go home…. or so you would think so.

Hasbro acquired Power Rangers and other brands from Saban Brands earlier this year and it looks like they have some plans for the beloved Power Rangers franchise. It looks like they are moving forward with a sequel to the forgettable film according to Inside Licensing. It reports that Hasbro will work with a film studio to develop a new Power Rangers film as a follow-up to the 2017 release.

One would assume that even if Hasbro has plans for the Power Rangers, they would stick to rebooting the franchise instead of following up on an unsuccessful film. Doesn’t seem like a good business plan since not only did the film under-perform at the box-office but it was also met with mostly negative to mixed reviews. If it’s a case in which a good film with a fan-base didn’t make much cash a’ la Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, then a follow-up is justified but for this film, not so much.

Well, it’s highly unlikely that this film would be released anytime soon but it would probably be wise to have a subtitle instead of a number behind the film. That way, at least some audiences wouldn’t feel the need to look up the previous film before checking this one out. Granted, many do but in all honesty, who asked for this film anyway??
