James Wan’s Conjuring series is turning into a franchise of its own with spin-offs at every corner including the upcoming Nun film set to be released later this year. The first two Conjuring films were horrific fun but its first spin-off Annabelle was a piece of turd but it managed to deliver in its second installment Annabelle: Creation. It seems that it’s still going on as a third Annabelle film has been confirmed according to Collider.
At San Diego Comic-Con’s Scare Diego event, New Line confirmed Annabelle 3 with Gary Dauberman set to direct. Dauberman has written the previous Annabelle films along with last year’s It and the upcoming Nun. This would be Dauberman’s directorial debut and according to the series pioneer James Wan, the next Annabelle will be like a haunted Night at the Museum and the Warrens’ room filled with haunted artifacts will be playing a big role. He said:
“Annabelle basically activates all the other haunted artifacts in that room, so it’s basically Night at the Museum with Annabelle.
That creepy doll made one hell of an introduction in the first Conjuring but it was not really explored. Despite this, it proved to be one of the scariest aspects in the film and offered up its own spin-off. Dauberman further discussed how this premise will be utilized as the film will find the doll targeting the Warrens’ 10 year old daughter Judy, who had a confrontation with the doll near the end of the first film.
Night at the Museum doesn’t seem like the most scariest film to use when describing it but Dauberman’s words on how it will be utilized offers up something that could really send shivers down your spine. Creation managed to finally offer up a good Annabelle film that fixed the mistakes of the god awful first one and if all goes well, the series could be one of those that gets better with each installment.
