Godzilla 2 Director Discuss Kong Teases In The Film

As long as it’s not a set up.

Legendary’s MonsterVerse is definitely heating up with its entries and offering an exciting line-up of films revolving around these iconic monsters. Godzilla way back in 2014 set things in motion and last year’s Kong: Skull Island provided a good follow-up to the film. Now that Godzilla is back for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, we can expect a throw-down between the two iconic characters. That’s definitely going to be the case with plans of a Godzilla vs. Kong film after King of the Monsters. One would assume that King of the Monsters would simply serve as a set up to this fight but this would apparently not be the case but there would be some teases alluding to it.

King of the Monsters will be including several other beasts as well including King Ghidorah, the giant insect Mothra, and Modan. The film is set to be directed by Michael Dougherty and will star Millie Bobby Brown from Stranger Things, Vera Farmiga from The Conjuring, Sally Hawkins from The Shape of Water, Thomas Middleditch from Silicon Valley and Zhang Ziyi from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Speaking to EW, Dougherty revealed that there won’t be any major Kong set-up in the film but will definitely tease the return of the hulking gorilla in the next MonsterVerse entry. He said,”It’s not like we’re bending over backwards to introduce Kong, but there’s definitely some bread crumbs,”. It looks like there won’t be much Kong in the film but these teases would probably give something for fans to pick apart before we see the two monsters on screen battling.

This MonsterVerse looks promising but hopefully they would be able to serve more than just another monster fest for the summer. Legendary does looks they’re going all out with this and perhaps rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe… okay, probably not.
