There are plenty of plans for the DC Extended Universe with various films slated and introductions to some characters we’ve never seen on screen before (at least in the DCEU). With the upcoming Shazam! film to be released next year and Aquaman to be released later this year, things are looking up for the DCEU. As for the former, many thought that the film will also include supervillain Black Adam in the mix as Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was signed on to play the character. In the end, Black Adam got his own film in the works which could cause some to assume that Black Adam will be making a cameo in Shazam!. Well, that’s not going to be the case.
In an interview with Syfy, Dwayne Johnson spoke about the upcoming Black Adam and Shazam! films. He assured Black Adam is happening but also revealed that he unfortunately, won’t be in Shazam!. He said:
“I’m not in that one… It’s Shazam and Black Adam and, with the way the DC universe works, we should — in theory — meet up on the big screen. But who knows.”
Well, not much of a surprise there since Johnson is one hell of a busy man. He is no doubt one of the biggest stars in Hollywood and has many (perhaps a bit too many) films popping up and planned including the third Jumanji film and Hobbs and Shaw, spin-off to the Fast and Furious series. It’s a shame though since it would be fun to have a little peak of Johnson in the role. He does leave up some possibility with the “who knows” line so he might be just offering a little white lie to misdirect us for the big reveal. Perhaps in the mid or post credits?
