Lewis Tan Clarifies His Comments About Meeting With DC About Nightwing

Tan confirmed he’s talked with DC about projects and he’s ready to play Nightwing.

A few weeks ago, Into the Badlands star Lewis Tan posted a picture of himself on Twitter after taking a “great meeting” with DC Entertainment, which got fans speculating about whether or not Tan was in the running star in an upcoming DC production.  In the photo, it is visible that he is holding a Batman graphic novel among others.

The actor, known for playing Zhou Cheng on Marvel’s Iron Fist and Shatterstar in Deadpool 2, has come forward to address the recent news that DC Films had met with him about possibly taking on the role of Dick Grayson’s crime-fighting alter ego for the upcoming Nightwing movie.

According to an original report by That Hashtag Show and confirmed on Tan’s Twitter page, the actor scored a meeting with DC in mid-June to apparently discuss his suitability to play Nightwing. At the time, Tan stated that the sit-down talk did, in fact, involve conversations about the Nightwing film.

“I sat down with DC, with some of the executives at DC, and they’re big fans, I’m a big fan, obviously,” Tan told THS when asked if he would actually play Nightwing in the future. “I know Chris McKay wants a martial artist, right, so that’s out there,” Tan said.

“He’s following me on Twitter, you know…there’s a lot of good juju vibes out there for that. Nothing that I can say that is confirmed. This is a project that he’s still developing and I sat down with DC, with some of the executives at DC, and they’re big fans, I’m a big fan, obviously. My father came to America, because of Batman (1989) and, you know, I definitely want to see that come full circle and give back. I’m not trading in my Marvel roots, because they started me, but DC started my dad, so it would be nice to go over there and play around and find the right thing. So we’re looking for the right thing and there were a lot of different talks and Nightwing was one of those that were mentioned, so we’ll see.”

Tan has since taken to social media to further clarify his comments, again explaining that the interview was for several potential roles and not just Nightwing.

“Hey guys, I love all the support but to clarify what I said in the interview, I met with DC but not specifically for that project,” Tan wrote on Twitter. “I love Nightwing and if the chance came I would love to show what I would do with the character.”

Though Tan isn’t totally tied to the role of Nightwing, the amount of positive feedback he’s received after people heard he was even in contention is a wonderful sign, as seems to suggest that if DC does officially tap him for the part, his casting will go down as one of the best in recent Hollywood history.

Nothing is definite, though and usually if an actor is up for a major role like this, it’s kept on the lowuntil the studio is ready to make an announcement.  It wouldn’t be shocking to see Tan turn up in a DC role, but perhaps not as a headliner.

In the meantime, you can currently see Lewis Tan in theaters in Deadpool 2 and on television on the most recent season of AMC’s Into the Badlands.
